The Boomtown Rats are back!

The Boomtown Rats are back!

Bob Geldof was in New York City last night to promote three new Boomtown Rats projects, including an album, documentary and book.

A small crowd had the honor of attending an hour long version of the documentary, which offered an intimate view of the Irish band that formed in 1975 in Dublin amidst the emerging punk scene. The honest depiction of the rise of the band included interviews with the original members of the band including Geldof, bassist Pete Briquette, drummer Simon Crowe and guitarist Garry Roberts. For the new release on BMG entitled “Citizens of Boomtown,” musicians Alan Dunn on piano and Darren Beale on guitar were added. The end of the film featured a video for the first song off the release called “Trash Glam Baby. ” The CD and a book of lyrics and reminiscences by Geldof entitled Tales of Boomtown Glory will be released by Faber Music on March 13th.

After the screening, Geldof stuck around for a lengthy interview with former Rolling Stone journalist David Fricke. Open and in fine spirits, Geldof shared insights and stories, enthralling fans in the luxurious screening space of a downtown hotel. Many were thrilled to take selfies with Geldof following the Q&A.

Be on the lookout for The Boomtown Rats, as UK dates have already been scheduled for 2020.
